Directions & Transport

Whether you’re taking public transport or driving, Clonmel is easy to get to from around Ireland.

Bus

Bus Éireann offers connections to many parts of the country including Cork, Dublin, Limerick, Kilkenny and Waterford as well as serving local towns such as Cahir, Carrick-on-Suir and Clogheen. Visit buseireann.ie for the most up to date timetables and journey information.

Rail

Irish Rail (Iarnród Éireann) offers a daily Commuter route from Waterford to Limerick Junction that serves Clonmel. Change at Limerick Junction for services to Limerick, Cork and Dublin. Visit irishrail.ie for further details, timetables, journey planners and ticket purchases.

Air

Ireland attracts many visitors from abroad and most major airlines operate regular services to Waterford, Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports. 

Dublin Airport – This airport is the gateway to Ireland with routes to and from destinations across the globe. From here you can take either a train, bus or hire your own car for your visit to Clonmel and Ireland’s Ancient East. Full details are available on dublinairport.com

Waterford Airport – Clonmel’s closest airport which offers a range of flights to and from the UK. Upon arrival there is a car hire and taxi service available to drive you to the nearest bus and train stations. Full details are available on flywaterford.com

Cork Airport – Cork airport runs flights to and from many UK and European destinations. The one-hour and 15-minute drive from Cork to Clonmel allows you to see some of the beautiful scenery that the South of Ireland has to offer. Full details are available on corkairport.com

Shannon Airport – This airport offers flights from a variety of UK, European and US destinations. One and a half hours away from Clonmel, the drive is a great opportunity to see the South East of Ireland.  Full details are available on shannonarport.ie

Travelling by Car from Dublin Airport/Dublin

Clonmel is a two-hour drive from Dublin Airport/Dublin.

Route 1: Follow the M50 Southbound and join the M9 route heading towards Carlow and Kilkenny. (Toll on route)

Route 2: Follow the M50 Southbound and join the M7/M8 route heading towards Portlaoise and Thurles.  (Toll on route)

Sea

Clonmel is situated in the south-east of Ireland and only an hour and a half from Rosslare Europort that serves as a gateway to both the UK and France.
