The Banbha Quartet was founded in 2020 and is made up of four of Ireland's most celebrated musicians. Comprised of Lidia Jewloszewicz-Clarke and Maria Ryan (violins), Robin Panter (viola), and Peggy Nolan (cello), they return for their sixth tour for the National String Quartet Foundation in spring 2026. The concert takes its title from American-Irish composer Jane O'Leary's Mystic Play of Shadows, inspired by birdsong around the lake at dusk. Now in her 80th year and honoured with this year’s NCH Lifetime Achievement Award, the composer regards this quartet as ‘one of my very favourite pieces’.
Programme:
Jane O'Leary - Mystic Play of Shadows (1995)
Dobrinka Tabakova - The Smile of the Flamboyant Wings (2019)
Germaine Tailleferre - String Quartet (1919)
Henriëtte Bosmans - String Quartet (1927)
Emilie Mayer - String Quartet in G minor (c.1840-1850)
