Leah Broad’s Quartet is a group biography of four women composers: Ethel Smyth, Rebecca Clarke, Dorothy Howell & Doreen Carwithen that won the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Storytelling Award 2024, and a Presto Books of the Year Award 2023.

Leah is a music writer, historian, and broadcaster. She holds a DPhil from the University of Oxford and writes about twentieth century cultural history, particularly women in music. As a public speaker, she has appeared at events and venues including the BBC Proms, Hay Festival, and Edinburgh International Book Festival.

The most magnificent biography... Broad has brought four very different women to life and issued a rallying cry for hundreds of others... A wonderful, gripping, page-turning read.
